Our science touches a number of sectors, including pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, food, agricultural biotechnology, sports as well as the government (police forces).

We are the UK National Measurement Institute for Chemical and Bioanalytical measurement, offering accelerated development in programme management, research and testing.

In our role as the Government Chemist, we play an important function, acting as an independent and impartial referee analyst in cases of dispute. As such we have responsibilities to advise the UK Government on the analytical chemistry implications of policy, standards and regulations.
